Relax. Close your eyes and bring your attention inward to your body’s sensations and feelings, even the uncomfortable ones. Your body may want to breathe differently or deeper during your adjustment as a way of releasing old tensions and restrictions that have been locked in your tissues for some time. Use your exhalation to let go of tension and your inhalation to bring in new life energy.
Remove your belt or any binding clothing. Empty your pockets. Turn off your phone. Take a pause in your busy day to explore yourself and your body.
If possible, plan your visit so that you have not just eaten a big meal so your nervous system will not be preoccupied with digestion.
During your adjustment, you may notice different kinds of touch: sometimes lighter and more energetic, sometimes deeper and more muscular, and some more “structural” in nature, corresponding to the specific tissues in your body that are expressing subluxation patterns. Your body may want to do something in response to what it feels…let it! Feel free to move, stretch or change position on the table. Let your body wiggle, giggle, sigh or cry as it is so moved.
Typically, you may feel physical changes as your body receives adjustments. In some cases, you may also become aware of feelings, emotions or memories coming up to the surface for processing. Sometimes a funny taste in your mouth or a bit of nausea will arise as your system releases and clears out something toxic. All of these are a normal part of the adjusting process. You can support your system through the healing process by drinking extra water to flush toxins out, eating well and getting enough rest following your session.
If you train or work out on the day of an adjustment, take it a little easy! Do not push your body to 110% right away, even if you are feeling amazing. Remember your system may need a little time to integrate and get used to the new possibilities that have opened during the adjustment.
It is normal to feel different after your session. Sometimes different is really good and sometimes it can feel a little strange or even tender, like you had a good workout the day before. If you have questions about new sensations in your body, please reach out to us! We want to know!

We utilize a wide array of gentle, precise, honoring adjusting techniques at NorthPoint Chiropractic. Each practitioner has their own unique way of combining their skills and talents into a seamless experience for the client. We apply our tools under the conceptual umbrella of Bio-Geometric Integration, a system for understanding how human bodies become misaligned and disharmonious in response to experiences they are not able to integrate. Additionally, we may use Craniosacral adjusting, myofascial release, Reiki energy healing and Somatic Inquiry among other modalities in our work with you.

In most cases, we do not require X-rays to determine how to safely adjust you. We use special indicators from your body to direct us toward what needs adjusting and how to best approach it. If you have had a recent trauma or accident, or are concerned about worsening symptoms, imaging may be recommended. If necessary, we will refer you to an imaging center we work with for the appropriate films or to your medical provider.

Your initial visit includes taking a detailed lifestyle history and consultation, a neurospinal and postural assessment, and your first gentle chiropractic adjustment. This session could be 30 or 60 minutes depending on your specific needs. Please call to find out what length of session is right for you.

Many patients prefer to receive adjustments in our beautiful community room during open adjusting hours. It provides flexibility for scheduling and is an economical way to benefit from regular ongoing chiropractic care. We have up to four tables available every 30 minutes. In the open room the doctor will check in with you to see what is going on for you that day and then initiate a progressive series of contacts and adjustments in your body as they move around the room between patients. This way of working gives the body time to process and integrate in between adjustments. Our community room has a combination of hospital-grade HEPA filter and virus destroying plasma filters operating at all times and we follow current California state Covid precautions and recommendations.

First of all, adjusting babies is different from adjusting adults. The contacts used are all very light and gentle. Many infants will sleep right through their adjustment and young children often will play right through the entire session.
Infants can experience a variety of different stressors as they make their way into our world. From intrauterine constraints or breech presentations (often due to tension and restriction in mom’s spine and pelvis), challenges with natural labor and delivery (including rapid or slow labor), to full-blown birth interventions (such as chemical induction, vacuum delivery or use of forceps), babies can benefit from a gentle spinal adjustment and nerve system unwinding to facilitate their optimum growth and health potential.
If a newborn has had a difficult birth, birth trauma or medical intervention, it is a good idea to get your baby checked as soon as possible. Challenges with nursing and bonding may be due to subluxation patterns affecting the spine and oral cavity and can often be resolved quickly if addressed quickly during this important time. If you have such concerns about your newborn, please contact the office as we can sometimes schedule a postnatal home visit.
Toddlers fall continually as they are learning to pull themselves up, stand, balance and begin to walk. Falls can result in subluxations, sprains, strains or impacts that can alter alignment and symmetry, resulting in incoordination or developmental delays. Young children are typically not able to communicate this other than seeming a bit “off” to watchful parents. Gentle chiropractic adjusting can help keep kids’ spines, hips, feet, and other joints clear of interference patterns giving them the best chance for healthy development.
Many issues that children experience are due to interference in nerve system communication and can be addressed by adjusting rather than just treating the symptoms.
See this chart of some of the issues with which some patients present.
Chiropractic care is a powerful, safe and gentle way to increase the resilience and integrity of your nervous system at any age. The body’s ability to heal is amazing when the nervous system is clear and balanced. Children respond beautifully to specific and gentle chiropractic adjustments. Parents are frequently amazed at the results.
